Paid stuff
because it ain't free
I've started this project with paid features in mind. Yes it's open source and yes you can host it yourself without me paying anything, but the project itself is aiming at few personas:
- People who "just need a website, now" and don't bother thinking about deployments, even free static pages (think people who just want some placeholders for legal docs like privacy policy for an App Store release).
- People who want something more, like a place for their blog, and again don't want to bother hosting it.
The project is not free as in beer, but is free as in liberty. Meaning, even if you'd use it in a hosted version, provided by me, yes you pay as long as I host it for you, but you will be also free to export all your stuff away and either convert it into a static website, or just host your own version of that stack this thing is running on.
That means though, that as long as I host it for you you need to pay for this.
At the moment there will be two paid options.
Verification fee
This is made only to filter out all bullshit spammers, malicious actors and spamming bots.
One thing is the email verification, other one will be a small verification, administration fee, in order to check that you are real, eventual malicious moves would be price'y and since I'm using Stripe it will also follow the Know Your Customer rules, so in case someone wants to abuse this service to post some illegal content, I will just hand over all the data I and I guess Stripe have to the cops.
After paying a verification fee (at the moment of writing it's 2€), you'd be entitled of using it as a trial with 2 websites and 20 pages (global, soft limit, over that no deployments possible).
Premium subscription
I use justwebsite.eu already for some of my websites, including docs for apps I do for SailfishOS. That's the first persona I mentioned earlier. For some cases I just don't want to bother.
As my usage grows, and I'm already above 2 websites and 20 pages, I go into the S premium tier, which in my opinion is very generous (at the moment: 10 websites, 100 pages).
The price I'm thinking of (this might change) is 5€ a month. I think it's a fair price for the effort. If you think it's not, reach out to me on Mastodon.
It ain't ready yet though
So, this whole effort of locking down the instance behind a paywall was quite an programming effort which I didn't really like, but I did because I consider it important.
After that, there's still quite some features I want to do before opening it as private beta for all interested people.
What I'm thinking now is:
- Improve editing experience.
- Add MCP option so people can also use their AI agents to create, edit, configure and deploy websites.
- Add one or two themes so websites will get some different flavours.
- Improve overall Dashboard/Admin area UX and polish the onboarding user workflow.
That's the bare minimums I consider doing before opening to the wild.
However, since the verification step is already done, I might consider inviting one or two people to it already. If we know each other on Mastodon or elsewhere and you're willing to provide me an early feedback, I'm open.
Join the waitlist
If we do not know each other, I can recommend joining the waitlist so I can send you an email (single one, it's not a newsletter) once this reaches private beta.
Cheers! Szymon
